Up for It? commenced in 2001. In July 2003 Up for It? became a registered charity and was incorporated as a company limited by guarantee. The official company name is Up for It Lifestyles.
Up for It? is a health and lifestyle programme, running in targeted areas of South Lanarkshire, aimed at motivating behavioural and lifestyle change. The programme provides the residents living in the bottom 15% datazones (groups of postcodes) and in receipt of benefit,with free access to services focussed on identifying individual and realistic improved health behaviour, reducing stress, stopping smoking, reducing weight via a healthy eating plan and increasing exercise.
The programme commenced as a pilot project in the Blantyre / North Hamilton Social Inclusion Partnership (SIP) area in January 2001. Since then the programme has expanded to cover other areas of Hamilton, Blantyre, Larkhall and Clydesdale. The programme is funded in partnership with South Lanarkshire Council, NHS Lanarkshire and Fairer Scotland. Referring agencies include GPs, health visitors, community forums, community addiction teams, substance misuse teams, smoking cessation co-ordinators, community and voluntary organisations. Individuals can also self refer to the programme. This year Up for It? has secured almost £100,000 from the Scottish Government's Resilience Fund which was set up to help organisations affected by the recession. Organisational Structure Up for It Lifestyles is governed by a board of directors, whose members are elected at the Annual General Meeting in accordance with the Articles of Association.
